On Jun 3 1995, Pedro pitched 9 perfect innings for the Expos vs the Padres. Joey Hamilton matched the shutout for 9, giving up only 3 hits and 2 walks.
I watched this game on TV, and what really drove me nuts was that when Moises Alou singled to lead off the top of the 9th, there was no attempt made to bunt him along. While I'm no fan of bunts, this would have been the perfect place to play for that one run, as it was pretty clear that Pedro only needed one. Fletcher flied out, and then Tarasco hit into a DP.
The Expos then got the run in the top of the 10th, but Pedro was gassed and Bip Roberts doubled to lead off the 10th. It took a good outing by Mel Rojas and a good play to the plate by Jeff Treadway to preserve the win.
Nice card!
ReplyDeleteThose nmbers are sick. Pedro to Montreal could be the worst trade in Dodgers history.
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it turned out to be a bad deal, but at the time most thought the Dodgers had got a steal with DeShields. He still had a decent career, but of course Pedro became Pedro, and that was that.
