A future Jay sliding in under an Expo.
Bonus cards of Joe smiling.
I don't think Joe got this one. I think the fan in the Mattingly shirt pulled it in.
Joe could laugh about it later.
Joe was a true RBI guy. A lot of his numbers didn't look great, but I think that Joe was from the old school that believed that the clean up hitter was meant to drive in runs, not draw walks. And right or wrong, in the end he did his job exceptionally well. And there's no questioning that Joe hit better with men on base.
He played where he was needed and did a decent job with the glove, he stole a few bases, hit for power, and was clearly a big part of the chemistry of the teams he played for. He may not be a Hall of Famer, but he'll never have to pay for a drink in Canada, that much is for sure.
