Random cards. Phil Nevin.

Phil Nevin was the 1st overall pick in 1992, and debuted in AAA in 1993. No low minors for Phil! For a while he was looked at as a big bust, but he worked hard and ended up having some pretty good years for the Padres. I give him a lot of credit for that, not a lot of 1st overall picks would have volunteered to learn how to catch just on the off chance that they could make it that way.

I got these cards signed in 1994, and Phil was a very approachable signer. Some high picks weren't so nice about signing, and it never bothered me too much when their careers didn't go far.

A happy belated birthday to Phil, who turned 40 yesterday. (Jan 19)
